What is Porcelain?
Porcelain is man made from natural materials, including highly refined and purified clay and finely ground sand. The products are created by pressing and firing at very high temperatures to remove virtually all of the moisture, resulting in a highly durable strong product.
Why is Porcelain preferable?
Porcelain tiles are usually thicker, heavier and harder than common wall tiles.
The finishing looks can range from marble to wood, without the maintenance required for either.
Porcelain is highly resistant to sever weather changes including heat, frost and cost which means the paving is less likely to be damaged.
Porcelain is not affected by sunlight or weather conditions, so it retains its colour and will not fade.
It is slip resistant due to very low moisture absorption. This, combined with gently textured surfaces, makes it ideal for patios and around pools (or any wet area both indoors and outdoors)
Porcelain tiles are not only beautiful but offer unbeatable durability, strength and ease of maintenance, making them ideal for customers to use in a wide range of gardens, indoor/outdoor, driveway and patio solutions.
Porcelain tiles vs ceramic tiles?
Porcelain tiles are stronger and harder than ceramic. It also has lower water absorption than ceramic tiles.
What do the Colour Shade Variations mean?
V1: Uniform appearance (differences among pieces from the same production are minimal)
V2: Slight Variation (clearly distinguishable differences in texture and/or pattern within similar colours)
V3: Moderate variation (while the colours present on a single piece of tile will be indicative of the colours expected on the other tiles, the amount of colours on each piece will may significantly. A small colour variation in one tile, might present as the dominant colour in another)
V4: Random variation (random colour differences from tile to tile, so that one tile may be a completely different colour to others. Thus, the final installation will be unique).
What does R11 and R9 mean?
R-Rating Inclined Ramp Test (SHOD Feet):
The inclined Ramp Test is a tiled ramp that is lubricated and gradually inclined to find the slipping angle of the tile. The subject wears shoes with a standardised rubber sole.
R9 | Low surface friction, typically suitable for dry internal domestic floors e.g. Kitchens |
R10 | Medium surface friction, typically suitable for internal domestic floors subject to occasional wetting. |
R11 | Increased surface friction, typically suitable for external walkways, public toilets and dressing rooms. |
Important to note:
No tile is completely slip-proof.
Floors should be as clean and dry as possible.
Where necessary, handrails should be installed (e.g. on ramps)
